ACCA SBR Crash Course: How to Prepare in 6 Weeks (Revision Plan)
If your SBR sitting is close and a full study plan isn't realistic, you need focus, not more content. A crash course works by concentrating on the topics that appear most often and the technique that converts knowledge into marks. Here's a 6-week SBR revision plan.
Who this is for
- You've seen the material before and need to revise and sharpen, not learn from scratch.
- You can commit around 10–12 focused hours a week.
- You want to maximise marks in limited time.
If you're starting SBR from zero, follow a full 12-week plan instead.
The 6-week crash plan
Week 1 — Groups, fast. Consolidations are high-yield. Drill the core adjustments and one complex-group question.
Week 2 — The big standards. Financial instruments (IFRS 9), leases (IFRS 16), revenue (IFRS 15), impairment (IAS 36). One question each.
Week 3 — Performance & the rest. Employee benefits, deferred tax, provisions, and analysis & interpretation for the scenario stakeholder.
Week 4 — Ethics & current issues. Ethics appears in every Section A — lock in the marks. Add sustainability and current-issues talking points.
Week 5 — Full timed practice. Two complete past papers under exam conditions, self-marked, with a fix-list after each.
Week 6 — Mock & polish. One full mock, marked properly. Review your mistakes only. Rest before the exam.
High-yield focus areas
- Group accounts — almost always examinable.
- Ethics — reliable, learnable marks.
- Application — every answer must connect the standard to the scenario.
- Analysis & interpretation — a common Section B theme.
Exam technique that wins marks in a crash
- Answer the verb. "Discuss" and "assess" need judgement, not just facts.
- Use the scenario. Reference the specific company, not generic theory.
- Manage time. ~1.95 minutes per mark — move on when the marks dry up.
> In a crash course, technique matters more than coverage. A well-argued answer on a topic you half-know beats a perfect definition that ignores the question.
